Closets Project: The Closet Hallway

Closets Project: The Closet Hallway

October 2006 At the same time I was remodeling the master bedroom closet, I performed the same tasks in the closet hallway. And no, I’m not dyslexic and really meant to say "hallway closet." "Hallway closet" implies a closet in a hallway. What we have

Closets Project: Master Bedroom Closet

October 2006 One thing bothered me about our Great Room Project: the closet hallway. This also corresponded with what bothered me about our previous Master Bedroom Project: the master closet. That is, we hadn’t included either in our refurbishing plans. My disturbance in this matter

Great Room Project: Kitchen Door?

Great Room Project: Kitchen Door?

Monte paints the back door.

September 2006

With the joist project finished, we found ourselves on hold for a couple weeks while we waited for the electrician to come do the wiring. So Monte decided that the back door in the kitchen–which was an ugly gray on one side and an equally ugly tan on the other–needed a paint job.

Monte went to Wal-Mart and picked the color himself. This picture makes it look a little more pink than it is.

Coming home to a burgandy/purple door was certainly more cheerful than the old gray!

Great Room Project: Ceiling Joists

July thru September 2006 Monte put up insulation on the walls, and then started on the ceiling joist project.           First we had to buy the new 16′ joists–and cart them home. Since we didn’t have a trailer, Monte strapped

Great Room Project: Taking Off The Trim

April 2006

Two months after we started the Project, we were still pulling off plaster and lathe! One of the last steps was removing the woodwork. The first baseboard Monte pulled off caused us some serious worry. The baseboard had been put on before the flooring, making it nearly impossible to remove it without breakage. Thankfully, only a few short sections were nailed below the floor level. With a little leverage, several tools, and a lot of patience, we got all the trim off with minimal damage.

Monte also knocked out all the plaster between the studs since we were going to put in real insulation.

Maybe we need some help…
