Chapman Days

Chapman held its 2nd annual Chapman Days today, featuring a car & motorcycle show, kiddie carnival, crafts, food, music, and two parades.

A little after noon, Mom, Dad, and I went downtown to the Methodist Fellowship Hall, where the Methodist and Baptist ladies were serving pie & ice cream. I had to drop off three pies (which I let Wal-Mart bake.)

Bruce & Hazel Aurand, Henry Schlieker

Dad had ventured downtown earlier by himself to eat a hamburger served in a different building, so he was ready to eat pie.

I thought Mom and I should go get hamburgers for ourselves, but since we were already in the Fellowship Hall, with lovely pie choices in front of us, I quickly decided we could eat dessert first. Our slices of peach pie were so big, neither of us was hungry for a hamburger after that!

Bruce & Hazel Aurand, Dorothy Knight

We looked at some of the classic cars, checked out the crafts in the Town Hall, then found a shady spot to watch the 2:00 parade. Our neighbor Dorothy Knight offered Mom a chair beside her.

Chapman School Band

The Chapman School band started off the kid’s parade. Go Eagles!

Lynch girls

Dennis Lynch Sr. was the emcee, and he declared these participants as being the cutest in the parade. He may have been a tad biased, since they’re his granddaughters, but I agreed with him. Their ladybug costumes & float really were the cutest.

We Aurands remember the years past when D.C. Lynch Shows set up their full carnival in downtown Chapman. More than twenty-five years later, the carnival is back–but just the kiddie rides.
