Wilber Czech Festival
Today the four of us jumped in the car and headed 2 hours east & south to Wilber, NE for their annual Czech Festival. Dad had never been to it, and one of the fellows at the elevator must have sold it to him, because he was willing to go even though the temps were heading in the upper 90’s.
Monte and I had been to the Wilber Czech Festival several years ago with his family (his maternal great-grandparents were Czech.)

Mom, Dad, and I pretty much stayed in the shade while Monte explored the festival and took tons of pictures. |

He saw Czech glassware….
…and traditional costumes.
There was dancing… | ||
…a marching band… | ||
…or two… | ||
…and a parade featuring the Nebraska Czech Queen and her “Little Sister.” Also in the parade were Czech queens from Kansas, South Dakota, Texas, Missouri, Alaska, New Jersey, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin, among others.
But the main reason we came–homemade kolaches! Dad bought 2 dozen; 6 apricot, 6 cherry, 6 raspberry, and 6 (ick) prune.
Never too young… …or too old… …to be Czech |
