Great Room Project: Ceiling Joists
July thru September 2006 Monte put up insulation on the walls, and then started on the ceiling joist project.

First we had to buy the new 16′ joists–and cart them home. Since we didn’t have a trailer, Monte strapped them to the top of the truck.
We intended to make 2 trips since we couldn’t carry all the joists at once. However, we ended up making 3 nail-biting trips, because after getting one set home we discovered they were 14′ instead of 16′.
The sawhorse was about to give out by the end of the last trip.
Monte made sure the joists were tied down well! |

The process for adding new ceiling joists: Put up one end.
Put up the other end. | ||
Make sure it’s flush with its counterpart. I reluctantly helped when Monte needed me. "Reluctantly" because help usually meant me standing high up on a ladder. Yikes! |

Our newly adopted cats Ziph (the black one) and Zephi (the tawny one) enjoyed all the fun climbing toys we put up just for them.
Here the space kitties demonstrate their laser eyes, which they used to immobilize enemies. Bzzzt! Zap! Bzzzt! Zap! Okay, back to work… |
