Closets Project: Painting and Sanding
Since this was mainly my Project, I had to learn to overcome my fear of heights (er, falling) and climb the ladder to reach the 9′ ceilings. I managed to do it only because there was always a wall nearby to “hang on to” if I felt scared.

Primer and paint in the master closet…
…and in the closet hallway.
Now for the floors… | ||
Previous owners had refinished the floors in the master bedroom and great room. However, they had neglected to include the closets. Thus, the closet floors were darker than the bedroom and great room floors. Here you can see the difference in the colors. |
||
I used a small belt sander borrowed from Dad to strip the floors. I didn’t quite get all the old stain off, though, so the closet floors still don’t match the bedroom.
But after a few coats of polish, they look pretty good. These photos are of the master closet floor.
Here’s the "before" of the closet hallway floor. I used chemical stripper to remove layers of polish before using the sander.
Here’s the finished closet hallway floor. Not perfect, but much better than before! |
