Instructions
Preheat oven to 350° F (175°C).
Grease the bottom only of an 8" square pan.
Beat butter until smooth and creamy. Add sugar and continue beating until fully incorporated, scrapping sides of bowl as needed.
Add eggs one at a time, beating between each addition until light and fluffy.
Mix in vanilla, flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Stir in nuts, if using.
Pour batter into square pan and spread evenly.
Bake 30 - 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
