Ingredients

  • 7 tbl butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecan optional

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350° F (175°C).
  • Grease the bottom only of an 8" square pan.
  • Beat butter until smooth and creamy. Add sugar and continue beating until fully incorporated, scrapping sides of bowl as needed.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating between each addition until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in vanilla, flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Stir in nuts, if using.
  • Pour batter into square pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake 30 – 35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
